ALPHA-THETA A NON-INVASIVE TREATMENT FOR THE SELF-EXPLORATION OF INDIVIDUALS WITH CONVERSION DISORDER IN PAKISTANI SOCIETY

Abstract

 

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to examine the effectiveness of alpha-theta brainwave Neurofeedback treatment for the internal self-exploration of individuals with conversion disorder. 

Method: A Purposive sample technique was used and data collected from Kalsoom International Hospital Islamabad and Al-Malik Medical Centre Rawalpindi. 123 participants were examined, including 5 Male child, 6 female child, 64 male adult and 48 female adult. This study retrospectively examined the symptomatic changes in clients with a range of psychiatric disorders, however present study particularly includes 13 (Male=3, Female=10) conversion disorder clients who have received Neurofeedback treatment.

Results: Our results indicated a significant improvement (p<.001) in the amelioration of our clients’ symptoms which have enabled them to bring their emotional memories into conscious awareness for the peaceful resolution without self-detachment.

Conclusion: Majority of the clients improved their psychiatric symptoms including the symptoms of conversion disorder and was discharged from therapy with the accomplishment of therapeutic goals.
